Today, I would like to highlight some of my favorite layouts from 2011 and why they inspired me. I would love to see your favorites from the past 12 months, so please share them.
Let's get to it.....
This is and will always be one of my all-time favorites. This is the first layout I created using one of my parents vintage photos (which I heart so much). This is also my first layout to be published in a print magazine. (insert smiley face here).
I love this picture of my dad. He has such a boyish, innocent look, and I love that!!!
This layout lead me to my first ever design team - The Little Black Dress. (which I am still proudly designing for). The picture is such a random, silly photo of myself - but I love those photos.
The reason this layout really stands out for me - is the quote that I used on the project. It is a quote I truly believe in, and try to live everyday of my life.
Quote "Imperfection is beauty, madness is genius...And it's better to absolutely ridiculous, than absolutely boring"
'I Love You'
This layout is one of my favorites for several reasons. I love this picture of my oldest son. It was one of his senior pictures and he face has so much emotion in it. This was also one of my first 'quick and easy' layouts. I am usually a slow scrapbooker, but this layout took less than 30 minutes!
This layout takes me immediately back to my springtime trip to Holland, the countryside and Amsterdam. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this country and city. The country is beautiful, the people are amazing, and the energy is addicting!
I LOVE clustering. I love the look of coordinated (or maybe not coordinated) embellishments, grouped together to create a visual scene. This layout is the queen of clustering!! It also is one of my favorite pictures of my boys!
I love stamps and how they are used on layouts and projects, but I must admit, I am a little lost on how to use them effectively. I have a rather large (and growing) stamp collection, but I rarely use them because of this.
This layout is one of my first layouts where I experimented with stamps - and I really love how it turned out. I also really love the meaning behind this layout. Life is a journey, and every day is a new day.
'the Crazy Aunt'
I love everything about this layout. I can't get enough of banners, and this layout does it in a big way. The real winner of this layout though, is the photo. This photo really shows the dynamics in my family. I am always the silly, crazy one! And, this crazy gene has been carried on to my youngest son, who is much sillier and funnier than me. There is one in every family, right?
I few years back, (on one of my many trips between PA and OH), my family stopped at the Flight 93 memorial. Back then, it was nothing more than a small shed with photos of the crash site, and several fences FULL of memorabilia that others have left behind.
It was a cold January day and the wind was blowing hard. You could hear the wind whistle thru the valley, yet it was eerily quiet.
This layout will always make me remember that day. I will never forget.
This layout is very special to me. My oldest turned 21 this past September and this picture was taken a few weeks before his 21st birthday. I can still remember the day he was born, the day he took his first step, and the first day of Kindergarten. Whew, time has flown. I wanted to capture the feeling of that day and added journaling behind the picture (which is very rare for me) to document my thoughts.
This layout is one of my faves artistically. I love to experiment when crafting, especially with my photos. This one is special because of the randomness of the TREE, and the photo printing on muslin fabric. I so love this technique and will be using it more in the future.
'Love this boy'
This layout shows one of my latest obsessions - 8.5 x 11 pages. This is a such a fun, different size, and I can't get enough. This size makes you think differently (if you are a typical 12 x 12 kinda girl), and lets you experiment with different designs and styles. I also love this picture of my youngest with his best bud Flikka.
One of my other latest obsessions, is using Faber Castell Gelatos - these are so much fun and so versatile. You can paint with them, stamp with them, color with them, etc. etc. I own every color (except their new ones) and you will see more of this on future layouts and mixed media projects.
And of course - who can't resist an adorable dog? Miss Flikka!!
There ya go....my favorites from 2011. I would love to hear your comments and which layouts are your faves!!
Happy New Years Eve EVE!!! ;)
