Paper Whimsy, Time-Keeper

Happy Thursday!

I am up on the Paper Whimsy blog today with my second Design Team project.  I still can't believe I am privileged enough to be designing for Paper Whimsy.  I LOVE their product and my mind continually spins with creative ideas!

This month, I created an assemblage piece that uses Ranger Adhesive foil as a focal design element.  It's fun to dry emboss, paint, and sand.  The texture created is wonderful and delicious.

I'll provide a brief how-to on how I created the base and background for my piece, titled 'Time Keeper'.

Step One:  Dry emboss a piece of adhesive foil.  You can also create texture by stamping or using a stylus to emboss.  No adhesive foil, try a piece of tin foil with your embossing machine.  Add a bit of glue and it will work perfectly.  Once embossed, paint with a thin layer of black paint. (if you stamped instead of embossed, skip this step)

Step Two:  Once the black paint is dry, sand over the entire sheet of foil, revealing the foil on the raised sections. (if you stamped instead of embossed, sanding will remove some of the image creating a worn, vintage look).  Add color with your favorite sprays, watercolors, or watered down acrylic paint.

Step Three:  Adhere foil to Amazing Alterable pieces. In addition to the purple pieces created below, I painted an un-embossed sheet of foil and sanded as above.  It created a contrasting look I used on another piece of Amazing Alterable.

Step Four:  Assemble.  I added glitter, paint, and Inka Gold (in silver) to my wings and Alcohol Ink to my metal embellishments to age them a bit.  In case you are wondering, the 'sunburst' around my porcelain clock was created with cotter pins found at a local antique store.  Love this look.

Step Five:  Hang and enjoy!
